These are optional. You don't have to use them, but carpet stays in place much better with them. This is the female portion that attaches to the carpet. Thin top section gets bedded down into the carpet and the prongs get bent over the lower section which is actually the female snap. Usually seven for the front and seven for the rear are needed.
