The hex head bolt is stainless whereas the carriage bolt has a stainless clad on the head. These bolts are used on the chrome luggage racks where the mounting brackets are attached to the sides of the rack. 3/8" x 1".

3/8" stainless steel acorn nut used on the chrome luggage racks that had the wooden slats. 3/8" was used for the support bars on each side that held the rack level when folded down as well as on the long rod that runs side to side.
