How do I replace the drive gear on the starter bendix assembly?

The end of the starter drive has a round sleeve that is threaded onto the drive. This sleeve has two cross drilled holes in it. When this sleeve is threaded into place, a punch or chisel is used to peen some of the material from the drive into these holes. This is what keeps that threaded end from coming off. Take a punch and punch that material inward so it is not preventing the sleeve from turning. Once this is done, you can simply thread the end piece off.
