I removed the rear break assebmly on a 1930 coupe to replace the grease seal in the brake drum and noticed that there is some play in the left rear axle. I there a bearing between the axle and the hub assembly. If so, how do I get to it? Glen

That is a common question that I get asked. Once the hub is removed from the axle shaft, there is nothing to center the axle. The axle will float around as if you have a bad bearing, but that is not the case. When the hub is slid over the end of the axle, the roller bearing that is in the hub slides over the bearing surface on the end of the axle housing. The bearing in the hub is what centers the axle.
