I resently aquired the family Model A woody but it needs some repair. After repairing some wiring and disconnecting a "fryed" ampmeter, how can I tell if the generator is charging without cooking more wires? A two wire generator?
If your generator has two wires coming out of it, one wire will be hot and the other will be a ground. Just use an OHMS meter to determine which is the ground. Most people just squeeze the ground wire under one of the cutout mounting legs. Leave the other wire hanging so it will not short out on anything and start the car. Take a volt meter and see what voltage you have coming out of the generator. You should have between 6 and 7.2 volts. This will tell you if the generator is putting out current.
