I have a B motor, any ideas on which head gasket works best? The copper or asbestos type.also any tips on sealing the water passage on these gaskets? They have a bad habit of leaking.! Were the original gaskets made this way(open) Thanks GREG
The B-6051-C head gasket is what you want to use with a B motor. This is a composition gasket with metal fire rings. It is recommended that you coat both sides of the head gasket with the head gasket sealant to seal in any imperfections. The sealant is part number A-6052-S. It is a copper colored spray that actually has flakes of copper in it. You spray both sides of the gasket heavilly, let it get tacky, then install the gasket and torque the head. If you are running an A head on the B block, you have to be sure you plug off the two small steam holes between #2 and #3 cylinders. I usually drill and tap them to 1/4-20 and put allen headed set screws into them. Run them in enough that they are below the surface then smear some JB-Weld over the top of them to seal them.
