I am attempting to time my 1929 engine. How far into the timing gear does the timing pin go? When the rotor is about where the number one cylinder should be firing, the pin will go into the timing gear about 3/32nds. of an in. H. E. Groover

The timing pin really does not enter the gear very far. The mark in the gear is merely a tiny dimple with a drill. I usually find that the mark is easier to locate with a center punch.
