When I tried to mount my new 1928-29 radiator, the bottom of the radiator is hitting on the cross member. What is wrong?

In October of 1929 Ford made a change to the cross member. The attached photo shows this change. If you have the new design that has the recessed ledge for the radiator to set on, it will be necessary to shim your radiator. Ford originally offered part number A-8126-R shims to be used when using a radiator designed for the old design cross member. These shims are not available today as far as I know. You will have to use multiple A-8125 radiator mounting pads to raise the radiator up high enough that it does not hit. Originally, 2 of those special A-8126-R shims were used on each side in addition to the original A-8125 pad. Since the new style cross member was only used for a couple of months, todays repo radiators are made to fit the old design cross member and shimming is going to be required. The second photo is of the current repo radiator setting on the early style cross member. You can clearly see that there is clearance even without the radiator setting on the rubber pads.
